HUGE BLAZE AT SANDIACRE FARM

Four fire crews were called to tackle a blaze at a farm in Sandiacre. When they arrived a number of large vehicles were well alight. The incident occurred in Rushy Lane at 9.30pm on Friday 14th February.

Four fire crews and a water bowser attended the incident and a number of firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used hose reels and main jets to tackle the fire. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Kevin Tedds said: “The initial incident commander made a quick, good and decisive plan, made up for more resources and put a fire stop to prevent it spreading. Simultaneous actions including moving a number of farm vehicles.”

No one was injured in the incident but several vehicles were destroyed. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

CHIP SHOP TO CLOSE

A Stapleford chip shop has been put on the market after the owner said he can no longer afford to run the business. The present owner of Starfish Traditional Fish & Chips on Hickings Lane said he does not want to sell but energy costs, cost of the food, business rates and other bills have meant they simply can't afford to run it anymore. Former Broxtowe mayor councillor Richard MacRae who has been a regular customer said, “I officially opened the chip shop in February 2015 and have been a regular customer ever since. It is a sad loss for the area.”

ORDER KNIVES ONLINE AND FACE PROSECUTION

Police are warning people they will beprosecuted for importing knives into the country. Six parcels bound for homes in Derbyshire have been intercepted in the last month. They contained flick knives ordered from various countries and were intercepted by customs staff before being delivered. An investigation has been launched and the people who ordered the knives are being traced. Another package was found to contain cocaine. PC Ryan Gill said: “We want people to know that ordering knives is an offence. The package will be discovered, the police will be alerted and we will trace and prosecute you.”
