CEREMONIAL OPENING OF ICONIC FAIR

Ilkeston Charter Fair is one of the oldest and largest street fairs in Europe and will once again be given its ceremonial opening on Thursday 20 October when the Mayor of Erewash, Councillor John Sewell will ‘ring the bell’ – the official signal that this year’s 770th Charter Fair is underway. The traditional ceremony includes a reading of the original 1252 Charter in front of Ilkeston Town Hall. As well as local families, the Mayor, Councillor John Sewell; Leader of the Council, Councillor Carol Hart; Chief Executive, Mr Jeremy Jaroszek, civic dignitaries from Derbyshire, and pupils from Parkside High will be in attendance.

This year’s Charter Fair will run from Wednesday 19th October to Saturday 22nd October. Ilkeston Town Centre will once again be transformed into a colourful spectacle of lights, music and a variety of exciting attractions.
