Monthly Walk/Social Event Thursday, 5th October 2017/Thursday, 28th September 2017 Sandiacre and District Probus Club held two social events during the past month. The monthly walk took place on Thursday, 5th October 2017 organised by President Peter Barber and involved a walk from Trowel Boards via way of the Erewash Valley Trail and Erewash Canal to the lunch venue at the Plough Inn, Sandiacre. 9 walkers and Jess the dog completed the course on a fine autumn morning, particular note being made of the wildlife on the canal and the fine views from Stanton Ironworks area towards Church Farm and Sandiacre Parish Church. A coffee stop was made at Pastures Lock (Sandy-bottoms to some of the party). At the Plough Inn the walkers were joined by a further 14 members and guests for a splendid lunch thanks being given by Walks Co-ordinator Peter Hope to President Peter Barber for organising a very interesting walk and good lunch venue. The second event was a games evening at St. Giles’ Church Hall organised by Social Secretary Malcolm Chapman. The games consisted of 10 indoor games such as Bagatelle, Shove ½p, Putting, Boggle, Football, Roulette, Skittles and adding points for each game resulted in a win for Alison Flint followed by 2nd place for Pat Gregory and 3rd for Peter Northeast. President Peter Barber thanked Malcolm and his team of Arthur Gregory, Ray Morley and Sid Tidmarsh for organising a thoroughly enjoyable evening and also to the ladies for the refreshments and Denis Dumelow for setting out the room.
